A variety of opportunities are available for qualified Orthopaedic Surgeons who want to make a positive impact while working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, and supportive team. Positions are immediately available across New Zealand for Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora are looking for Orthopaedic Surgeons who are passionate about delivering quality care to our patients, with roles available across the country in North, South and Central Auckland, Tauranga, Timaru, Gisborne and Hamilton.

Orthopaedic Surgeons are responsible for diagnosing a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders, including bone, joint, and soft tissue injuries or diseases. They use a combination of clinical assessments, imaging techniques, and diagnostic tools to ensure accurate identification of conditions such as fractures, arthritis, or degenerative disorders.

Orthopaedic Surgeons perform a variety of complex surgeries, including:

  • joint replacements
  • spinal surgeries for deformities or injuries
  • repair of fractures and torn ligaments
  • arthroscopy for joint issues
  • correction of bone deformities
  • soft tissue surgeries, such as tendon or ligament repairs.

About you

To work as a Senior Medical Officer in New Zealand, you must become registered to practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Practitioners need to meet competency standards and hold Annual Practising Certificates (APCs) to work safely and effectively. Salary and benefits

Senior Medical Officers have 6 weeks of annual leave and 12 paid public holidays giving you time to explore our beautiful country and raise a family in our diverse communities. Along with your base salary as a Senior Medical Officer, you will have an annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance of £6.9K GBP ($16K NZD) (pro-rated for part-time employees), reimbursement of your registration and practising certificate fees, and your professional indemnity insurance is covered by Health New Zealand.

  • Medical Officers annual salaries range £60.9K GBP - £90K GBP ($142K NZD - $210K NZD) plus allowances
  • Medical Specialists annual salaries range £79.3K GBP - £114.5K GBP ($185K NZD - $267K NZD) plus allowances
