Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a professional, passionate and highly motivated physiotherapist to join the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy team at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. This position will be based in Colchester and Tendring, with Outpatient Consultant clinics running at Colchester General Hospital.

The Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Team is proactive in providing holistic early intervention services, working within a multi-disciplinary team and with other pelvic health colleagues in the region. This ensures our patients are given the very best opportunity to protect their pelvic health and resolve any issues related to their pelvic floor dysfunction.

You will provide advanced clinical support to junior members of the team and be actively engaged in service development, to ensure patients with a range of complex conditions, receive an outstanding service. As a successful applicant you will be a strong team player, but be able to work on you own initiative, possessing excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills. You will need the ability to work collaboratively and build networks and relationships with different teams, over different sites. You will embrace innovation and integrated working and will be committed to following best practice, to ensure patient-centered care.

Previous experience in the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy field is preferred but a clear passion and interest for this area is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • To take a role in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of female and male patients, with bowel, bladder and/or sexual dysfunctions, who will often have complex and/or chronic presentations, depending on your experience. These include vulnerable adults and those with mental health issues, recognising when to involve other MDTs and services to ensure holistic and safe care.
  • Demonstrate use of clinical reasoning skills to determine clinical diagnosis and appropriate specialist physiotherapy treatment. You are required to be fully competent in the practice of vaginal and anorectal examination with appropriate training, if needed.
  • You will work closely with the Pelvic Health Team Lead, to support with planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service, and to deputise for the Pelvic Health Team Lead, when required. They will support you and give you the opportunity to enhance your specialist clinical skills.
  • You will be required to supervise, teach and appraise more junior staff and support student physiotherapists, as appropriate.
  • To act as a source of expertise in this specialist area, after appropriate training, for the Multidisciplinary Teams, patients, carers, medical staff and other health professionals, GPs and colleagues.
