Consultant in Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) Surgery

Consultant

Job overview

Applications are invited for appointment of a substantive consultant in General Surgery (10 PAs) with a specialist interest in Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) surgery to join the existing team of HPB cancer surgeons at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford. This is a new appointment to join the team of HPB surgeons as part of the Regional HPB Unit.

This appointment will strengthen the critical mass of expertise in the unit, improve the sustainability of the specialist on call commitment and position the Trust well in ensuring sufficient capacity to provide for the additional work expected as Cancer Alliances begin to develop plans for sustainable specialist services.

Main duties of the job

The HPB team have established the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust/Royal Surrey Cancer Centre as a centre for the treatment of HPB cancer as well as providing a tertiary service for emergency regional transfers. The Centre serves 7 other Cancer Units, comprising a catchment population of approximately 2.4 million within the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance. In addition, this HPB unit accepts referrals from several other NHS trusts, creating an effective catchment of 3 million.

The postholder will be expected to contribute to the emergency general surgery on-call rota as well as provide an on-call service for specialist HPB surgery.
