Are you dynamic, dedicated, passionate and forward thinking? If you put patient care at the heart of all you do, we are looking to accept your application for a full-time, substantive SAS in Respiratory Medicine.
As a Respiratory Registrar you will be involved with Ward Rounds, Outpatient Clinics, Diagnostic Lists and Lung Cancer MDTs. You will participate in the weekend Ward Reg Rota and support Undergraduate UBMS Medical School Teaching.

Main duties of the job
The exact job plan will be agreed with the post-holder, but will include:
- 4x sessions per week working as a registrar level doctor on the Respiratory Ward
- 1x session of SPA activity
- 6x sessions of Ward Referrals
- 1x Respiratory Clinic per week
- 1x session per week of EBUS/Bronch
- 1x session of Lung Cancer MDT
- Participation in the Weekend Ward Reg Rota on a 1:7 basis.
- Undergraduate UBMS Medical School Teaching
- Care of Respiratory inpatient and outpatient
Participation in academic activities in the Respiratory department including teaching, training and research.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will join a team of 6x Consultants, 1x Associate Specialist and 2x Speciality Doctors who have an interest in General Respiratory Medicine, Sleep and Lung Cancer.
The wider team is supported by a team of Resident Doctors, MTI, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Respiratory Physiologists and a Physiotherapist.
There is a dedicated visiting Thoracic Surgeon from Harefield Hospital; we have Oncology and Palliative Care support based locally; and excellent links for tertiary care with Oxford, Papworth and The Brompton Hospital.
The Cancer Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital is expanding. We provide on-site radiotherapy. We envisage a rapid expansion of the services we provide regionally. We have successfully initiated Targeted Lung Health Check cancer screening services and are looking to bolster our diagnostics, including the development of navigational Bronchoscopy services.

- Medical degree or equivalent
- Applicants must hold full GMC registration
Eligibility
Essential criteria
- Broad experience in all aspects of the speciality of General and Respiratory Medicine to provide effective and safe management of outpatients and inpatients
- Evidence of achievement of CMT competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice including: - Good clinical care - Maintaining good medical practice - Good relationships and communication with patients - Good working relationships with colleagues - Good teaching and training - Professional behaviour and probity - Delivery of good acute clinical care.
Desirable criteria
- Independent Ultrasound guided pleural procedure skills
- Bronchoscopy skills and willingness to develop advanced skills including EBUS
- Management of NIV u
- Familiar with lung cancer management and MDT involvement
Language skills
Essential criteria
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that be demonstrated by one of the following:
- applicants have scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent equal to average at least 7.5
- applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English
Clinical skills
Essential criteria
- Acute care safe: up-to-date APLS / EPLS
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role.
- Clinical judgment: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need
- Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the role
- Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the role
- Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take during core medical training or equivalent
