This is a 12 Month Fixed Term post in the first instance.

An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Ipswich Hospital in the Breast Services CDG. ESNEFT is seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Locum Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to join our multi-disciplinary breast unit at our Ipswich site. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality oncoplastic breast surgery, supporting the breast cancer pathway, and contributing to service development, teaching, and clinical research with commitment to breast surgical services across the Trust as required.
We are inviting applications for a 10 PA Consultant breast surgeon  

He/she will be expected to provide a comprehensive clinical service to consultant colleagues and clinical disciplines within the hospital and to the local General Practitioners.

Clinical responsibilities

 

The key duties and responsibilities are:

The appointee will work at the Ipswich Hospital site with the expectation of travel to Colchester Hospital site as required. He/she will be responsible in conjunction with colleagues for planning the future development of these services. The consultant has a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the department. 

The post holder will provide full time support in the delivery of a first class breast surgery service, the appointee should be trained in oncoplastic breast surgery and be able to support an immediate and delayed breast reconstruction service as well as salvage breast surgery. Surgical working requires excellent team working to support all team members in their practice.

The new post holder will be expected to offer a full remit of breast surgery service, to include outpatient and theatre lists working collaboratively with colleagues.  Outpatient clinics will be a mix of rapid diagnosis, follow-up, screening assessment results, surgical planning/reconstructive, family history and oncology clinics. A weekly cancer multidisciplinary team meeting and fortnightly oncoplastic MDT provide a forum for development of holistic management plans.

General

The appointment is covered by the terms and conditions of service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff under the 2003 new consultant contract and the code of conduct for private practice.

The job description is a reflection of current service needs and may be reviewed and amended, in

consultation with the post holder, in the light of future changes or development.

The consultant appointed will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge

and for the proper functioning of his/her department. He/she will undertake the administrative duties

associated with the care of his/her patients and the running of his/her clinical department.

The consultant will be required to assist management and its agents during investigations into claims

alleging medical negligence and, where requested, to provide related factual statements

The postholder will: 

·         Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standards of care

·         Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines

·         Develop and maintain good working practices within wards, outpatients and ED

·         Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care

·         Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing and imaging colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team

  • FRCS FRCS (general surgery) or EBSQ
  • Demonstrated expertise in breast surgery
  • Comprehensive knowledge of breast surgery and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of breast problems.
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

  • Research degree/MBA
  • Post-graduate Qualification e.g. MSc Oncoplastic breast surgery
  • Newer techniques such as Perforator flaps
  • Evidence of subspecialty training with validated logbook of key oncoplastic and reconstructive procedure
