Job overview

As an AIR Physiotherapist no one day will be the same. You can be running an ambulatory oxygen clinic in the morning and an outpatient clinic in the afternoon, the next day leading a Pulmonary rehabilitation class followed by providing training to carers regarding chest clearance in a patients home.  

The AIR Physio team run Pulmonary Rehabilitation (face to face, at home and online), Ambulatory oxygen clinics, Outpatient clinics offering management for chest clearance, chronic cough and breathlessness management, breathing pattern retraining, exercise advice and domiciliary visits.  

The chosen candidate will have a passion for respiratory physiotherapy and supporting those with chronic lung disease to gain the best possible health related quality of life.  

The role is extremely varied, based in King Edward VII, Windsor but covering East Berkshire through satellite clinics, home visits and Pulmonary Rehabilitation in local community centres- hence a car and a driving licence is essential.  

AIR is a leading light specialist community service so as well as providing premium care we also provide training to less specialist health care  

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of care for people with respiratory conditions, in both the outpatient and domiciliary setting alongside the delivery of Pulmonary Rehabilitation across East Berkshire.  

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for running Pulmonary Rehabilitation assessments and classes; Ambulatory Oxygen Clinics; Domiciliary and Outpatient Clinics to assist patients with Chest clearance; Cough management; Breathing Pattern Disorders and exercise advise. 

  • Close working within the MDT is essential, to optimise care for patients under the Early Supported Discharge and Admission Avoidance services.  Our goal is to aid active management of these individuals, to help avoid admission where possible. 

  • The post holder will utilise clinical, communication and interpersonal skills to identify the needs of people with respiratory disease and deliver care that recognises social, cultural and spiritual differences.  

  • A background of basic, clinical Respiratory knowledge, skills and experience, with our training and support, will enable the post holder to develop into a Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist, working independently within the MDT. The post holder will have a passion for Respiratory Physio and a want to help patients with Chronic lung disease improve their Health Related Quality of Life, mainly in the community setting.

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse
  • First degree in nursing or demonstrable experience at this level
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma / degree in respiratory care or willingness to complete
  • Teaching / assessment

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • 1 year post qualifying experience
  • Evidence of experience with respiratory disease care
Desirable criteria
  • Post Basic Respiratory experience / Community Nursing experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates up to date knowledge and skills in general nursing
  • Knowledge of key professionals issues and NMC guidelines and codes relating to professional practice
  • Ability to work in a team under direction and without supervision
  • Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office It Package

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills both written & verbal
