We are looking for a motivated and forward-thinking Clinical Lead to join our Adult Community Nursing service, providing visible leadership and driving service excellence across the Guildford and Waverley.


As Clinical Lead, you will be responsible for delivering a safe, high-quality and efficient community nursing service within a defined locality. You will provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership to District Nursing teams and locality-based services, ensuring care is responsive to the needs of our patients, carers, and local population.


This is an exciting opportunity to shape and influence community nursing, working at the heart of integrated neighbourhood teams and collaborating closely with GPs, Social Care, Mental Health, and other professional partners. You will be part of our senior leadership team, championing innovation, driving service transformation, and ensuring high standards of care, governance, and workforce development.

 

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the senior leadership team with direct responsibility for East Waverley District Nursing, District Nursing Unscheduled Care, Phlebotomy and  Night Response. Working with service lines Operational Team Leads, District Nurse and the SLT to ensure service delivery across Guildford and Waverley, 7 days a week. 


Key Responsibilities

•    Lead the delivery of safe, evidence-based and high-quality community nursing services.
•    Ensure seamless patient pathways from referral to discharge, promoting dignity, involvement, and person-centred care.
•    Chair monthly locality meetings and drive service improvement, quality monitoring, and KPI performance.

•    Work clinically for 20% of the week to maintain competence and visibility in practice.

•    Line manage Band 7 District Nurses and Operational Team Leads, including Night Response
•    Line manage District Nursing Urgent Community Response team and phlebotomy.
•    Oversee workforce planning, off-duty management, training compliance, sickness absence, and recruitment for defined locality and portfolio.
•    Manage locality budgets, contribute to cost improvement plans, and ensure equitable use of resources.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Level 1 Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration
  • Evidence of level 7 / masters level study, or equivalent experience
  • Completion of DN SPQ
  • Teaching / Assessing / Mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Management / Leadership course

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinically competent in areas relevant to adult community nursing as 40% of this post is clinical
  • Extensive experience at Band 7+ in the community healthcare setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of budget and financial controls at minimum band 7
  • Proven evidence of implementing local change with positive effect
  • Proven evidence of implementing local change with positive effect E
  • Experience of working effectively between operational activities and urgent patient / staff issues
  • Experience and understanding of recruitment processes
  • Experience of people management, including appraisals and managing sickness / performance
  • Experience of leading and teaching and ability to give presentations to groups
  • Experience of chairing meetings / MDTs
