Job overview

As an Inpatient Medical Secretary, you’ll be at the heart of a busy, dynamic team supporting our Adult Mental Health inpatient services. The post holder will be aligned to Scarisbrick inpatient team, Ormskirk hospital but is required to work flexibly in response to the needs of the networks administrative service, providing cover to departments on various sites as directed by their Line Manager to ensure continuity of a quality service provision. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth coordination of patient care by managing clinical documentation, Taking live minutes , scheduling appointments, and providing vital administrative support to our medical staff.

Main duties of the job

As an Inpatient Medical Secretary, you will provide essential administrative support to a busy inpatient mental health team. You’ll manage consultant diaries, coordinate patient MDT’S, and ensure accurate and timely documentation on clinical systems, prioritising urgent requests and maintaining confidentiality at all times.

A key part of the role involves attending patient meetings and live typing notes in real time, often with patients and multidisciplinary team members present. This requires confidence, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.

This role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Strong communication skills and proficiency in IT systems are essential, as you’ll liaise with clinicians, multidisciplinary teams, and external agencies to keep patient care running smoothly.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good level of general education including Mathematics and English at GCSE Grade 4 or above, or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 4 in Business and Admin or equivalent experience.
  • OCR level III or equivalent word processing experience
