About the roles

Exciting opportunities are available for qualified Orthopaedic Surgeons who want to make a positive impact while working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, and supportive team. We are looking for Orthopaedic Surgeons who are passionate about delivering quality care to our patients.

Depending on the specific position, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

·       Emergency and trauma care: Managing fractures, dislocations, tendon injuries, and other acute musculoskeletal trauma

·       Postoperative and recovery care: Monitoring healing, managing pain, guiding rehabilitation, and advising on lifestyle adjustments

·       Training and mentorship: Educating medical students, junior doctors, and surgical trainees

·       Research and innovation: Participating in clinical research to improve surgical techniques, treatments, and patient outcomes

To work as a Senior Medical Officer in New Zealand, you must become registered to practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Practitioners need to meet competency standards and hold Annual Practising Certificates (APCs) to work safely and effectively.  More information on this can be found on our Career site just search Senior Medical Officer.

Salary and benefits

Senior Medical Officers receive 6 weeks of annual leave and 12 paid public holidays, giving you time to explore our beautiful country and raise a family in our diverse communities. Along with your base salary as a Senior Medical Officer, you will have an annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance of £6.9K GBP ($16K NZD) (pro-rated for part-time employees), reimbursement of your registration and practising certificate fees and your professional indemnity insurance is covered by Health New Zealand.

Senior Medical Officers receive a base salary relative to their level of experience.

·       Medical Officers annual salaries range £61.5K GBP - £91K GBP ($142K NZD - $210K NZD) plus allowances

·       Medical Specialists annual salaries range £80.1K GBP - £115.7K GBP ($185K NZD - $267K NZD) plus allowances

Additional allowances are paid on top of base salary and vary due to location and service.
