Are you a qualified Critical Care Outreach Advanced Clinical Practitioner looking for a new challenge in a large tertiary centre? The Critical Care Outreach Advanced Clinical Practice team (CCOT ACP) are recruiting.
We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative member to join our existing team, and we welcome applicants from nursing and allied health professional backgrounds. We would also welcome applications from qualified ACPs from a different speciality with previous critical care/emergency department experience who would be required to complete the National Outreach Enhanced and Advanced competencies during their supernumerary period.
UHS CCOT service was established in 2001 and is a 24/7 acute care referral service covering approximately 1200 adult beds across a large tertiary centre. The CCOT ACPs work collaboratively with the ward teams across all specialist areas within Southampton General Hospital & Princess Anne Hospital, providing high-quality advanced-level care and management of acutely ill adult patients and adult patients who are at risk of deterioration or other immediate life-threatening events.

We have a dedicated Consultant Intensivist providing regular formal clinical supervision and education. We are committed to supporting your ongoing development across the 4 pillars of advanced practice, providing you with the opportunity to explore research/ audit/ service improvement projects, formal and information education and teaching opportunities and the development of your leadership and advanced clinical skills.
What you’ll do:
• The CCOT ACP responds to acute referrals and emergency calls to any adult patient across the organisation
• You will undertake a comprehensive patient assessment, critically analyse clinical findings, formulate differential diagnoses, initiate treatment to manage and stabilise the clinical condition and evaluate its impact.
• Avoid unnecessary critical care admissions and facilitate escalation of care decisions.
• Instigate critical care intervention at the patient's bedside before appropriate admission to critical care
• Protected 20% non-clinical time for advanced practice portfolio development, educational opportunities, service improvement and QI projects.
What we’re looking for
• Ability to work autonomously, undertaking expanded roles.
• Completed the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice.
• Professional portfolio demonstrating advanced practice across the 4 pillars of advanced practice.
* Completed National Outreach Forum Advanced Critical Care Outreach Competencies or speciality-specific advanced capabilities.
* Significant experience within the speciality.
* Able to work internal rotation, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
• Diplomacy and effective communication skills.
* Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

- Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant part of NMC / HCPC register
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice –full master (180 credits) Or equivalency pathway –the portfolio route –recognition by HEE centre of Advanced practice, via the supported portfolio route. Including NMP where professional registration permits. Or have formally credentialed on a nationally recognised specialty specific Advanced Clinical Practice programme for example FICM or RCEM EM ACP
- Speciality specific post registration qualification or training
- Provide evidence of Leading learning in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
- Provide evidence of Supporting /managing and supervision a range of learnings in practice
- Leadership and Management qualification
- Able to develop and implement policy, guidelines and projects from initiation to completion
- Completion of IR(ME)R Training
- Extensive post registration experience in a relevant speciality
- Experience of Service Development
