Job overview
Applications are invited for a fixed term contract for Specialty Doctor to cover maternity leave until September 2026.
Job responsibilities
Under the supervision of senior clinicians, the post holder will be required to support provision of patient care including following duties:-
- Assist in the routine care of patients, undertaking examination, diagnosis and treatment planning, both on the ward and in the out-patient department.
- Participate in ward rounds and then monitor the progress of in-patients
- Undertake effective hand over of patients to colleagues
- Maintain appropriate patient records both written and electronic ensuring all written records and legible and dated.
- Assist or perform in patient operative procedures within scope of practice.
- Perform minor oral surgical procedures in the out patient setting.
- Prescribe and administer treatment in line with departmental guidelines and competence.
- Examination and diagnosis of patients in outpatient clinics including cancer and new patients.
- Review patients on consultant clinics.
Main duties of the job
The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals.
All employees, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.

ON-CALL
On-call activity is exclusively at Norfolk and Norwich accepting both local referrals and regional referrals from our allied units in great Yarmouth, Kings Lynn and Ipswich hospital.
The rota is based on an approximately 1:11 non resident out of hours on call, providing week night and weekend cover. Compensatory rest is included following on call and hours are monitored in line with SAS contracts. The on call duties are to provide the first tier on-call cover for the Maxillofacial service with Consultant for senior support.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GDC registration
- BDS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- MFDS RCS or equivalent.
Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Good communicator.
- Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Enthusiasm for service development and teaching.
Desirable criteria
- Previous responsibility for service improvement.
Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 2 years of Dental foundation training or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in research or published papers in area of special interest
Communications and Language Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, colleagues in pathology and support staff
- Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
Desirable criteria
- Good presentation skills.
