Job overview

The post involves working at the Nevill Hall Hospital site and providing active medical input to patients admitted through the Acute Medical Unit to one of the in-patient wards. The post holder will be trained in the assessment and management of medical, psychological and social health of patients presenting to a General Internal Medical Intake.  

The expectation of the role is to provide junior grade support as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a 30 bedded sub-speciality ward. The post holder will participate in consultant led ward rounds as part of the MDT. You will participate in a rotational programme to experience all clinical aspects of medicine within the Nevill Hall Hospital and supported to meet individual training needs. The post holder will also be expected to take part in the outpatient clinic activity. This is likely to be related to the sub-speciality rotation and form part of the training programme.  You will also take part in multidisciplinary clinical work and research activities within the unit. There is an active postgraduate teaching programme, and clinical audit is a priority for the department/unit.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the senior on-call rota at the Grange University Hospital, which is currently 1:18 working both days and nights.  You will be expected to work within the oversight of the Medical Registrar on-site, off-site Consultant speciality and general medical support.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities are for the effective and appropriate medical care of inpatients admitted under the care of the Consultant Physician

The duties and responsibilities will be appropriate to the grade and speciality with appropriate consultant supervision

This will include the assessment, monitoring and initiating treatment, with colleagues and under consultant supervision

Attend consultant and multidisciplinary ward rounds, and supervise relevant junior medical students who may rotate through the directorate

Undertake regular unsupervised ward rounds on the relevant ward to ensure patients are making satisfactory progress

Complete discharge summaries in a timely fashion

Attend clinic as part of continuing professional development

Research and service outcome evaluation will be the key part of this job and you will have one session for this as part of this clinical fellow post
