Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Max Facs & Ortho clinic co-ordinator and cancer navigator with excellent interpersonal skills and a calm and methodical approach to provide a full range of administrative assistance to the Maxillofacial & Orthodontic department. This is a permanent full-time contract working 37.5 hours per week.
The role will include a full range of administrative duties to support consultants and their team. We are looking for someone that can manage their own workload, demonstrate efficient organisation skills and who can work collaboratively within the team.

Main duties of the job
The Navigator will ensure that Cancer pathways are coordinated efficiently and effectively, patient pathways are actively tracked to meet cancer waiting time standards, supporting the production of evidence and data for National Peer Review, Trust finances and medical publication. The post-holder will also deliver wide-ranging support to the management to ensure the effective running of clinics. The post holder will be the initial contact for patients coming to the department and visitors to the Royal Surrey County Hospital and therefore, be responsible for providing a welcoming, professional and courteous environment.
The post holder will need to ensure services are suitably staffed and supported across all areas such as reception, medical staffing and clinic utilisation. This role will also include liaising with a variety of staff across the Trust to ensure the smooth running of the clinics for the patients, clinicians and related support departments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The main responsibilities are:
1. To co-ordinate NHS and private patient pathways for the Trust, requiring highly functioning planning and organisational skills.
2. To track and expedite patients’ care pathways to ensure cancer waiting times are effectively met alongside the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Support Worker and Consultant.
3. Be responsible for all administrative tasks involved in the management cancer patient pathways.
4. Be responsible for day to day management, organisation and delegation of relevant tasks and roles to others as required.
5. Be responsible for data management.
6. Ensure clinic templates align with staffing and identify anomalies or issues to escalate to management.
7. Co-Ordinate outpatient clinics with Management support to ensure efficient clinical cover and running of clinics
8. Be responsible for booking and aiding outpatient long waiter appointments to allow achievement of national long waiter targets.
9. Provide cross cover for other Cancer Navigators during periods of leave.
A significant level of liaison with different departments is required and the successful candidate needs to have highly developed diplomatic and influencing skills. Attention to detail, excellent communication and organisational skills are key components to the position. Knowledge of medical terminology especially relating to cancer is desirable. Previous knowledge and experience in cancer services would be an advantage.

- Educated to degree level or demonstrable equivalent level of appropriate work experience

Essential criteria
- Knowledge of medical terminology, especially relating to cancer
- Knowledge of the NHS with an understanding of NHS process and patient pathways
- Experience of communicating with, influencing and relating to different professional groups and managers at all levels of seniority
- Experience of developing specialist training programmes, training new staff and providing ongoing training and support to existing staff.
- Experience of “process review” to maximise efficiency
- Experience of organising meetings, including minute taking
- Experience of developing processes and systems for the collection and collation of information
- Experience of data quality and confidentiality issues
- Working within a busy environment with multiple departments
- Demonstrate experience of working with office based electronic systems (for example Microsoft office, email)
- Experience of working within the NHS
- Experience of computer databases in health environment , PAS, pathology and radiology
