Integrated Clinical Hub (ICH) Paramedic
NORTHERN IRELAND AMBULANCE SERVICE
INTEGRATED CLINICAL HUB (ICH) PARAMEDIC - (BAND 6)
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) continues to lead innovation in paramedicine across the UK, with the Integrated Clinical Hub (ICH) serving as a key component of this evolution. The ICH is a multidisciplinary clinical environment staffed by HCPC Paramedics, Registered Nurses, Advanced Paramedics, Mental Health Practitioners, and Clinical Support Managers, supporting a shift towards more tailored, efficient, and person-centred unscheduled care.
The ICH enables delivery of the “right care, first time” through telephone-based assessment, effective clinical triage, and safe signposting—aligning with the changing needs of a growing and ageing population and reducing the demand for unnecessary ambulance conveyances.
About the Role
The ICH Paramedic will play a vital role in the delivery of safe and effective telephone-based care within the Integrated Clinical Hub. As an experienced paramedic, you will provide assessment and clinical advice to a wide range of 999 callers using decision support software and your own clinical expertise.
Working in a dynamic team, you will support timely and appropriate care decisions, reduce unnecessary conveyance, and enhance clinical support to frontline colleagues. The ICH Paramedic role also incorporates operational shifts to maintain clinical currency and ensures high-quality practice is maintained across settings.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct telephone-based clinical assessment and secondary triage of 999 calls using recognised clinical support software.
• Offer real-time clinical advice to frontline crews, including supporting Newly Qualified Paramedics in non-conveyance decisions.
• Signpost patients to appropriate care pathways or services, ensuring safe, evidence-based decision-making.
• Record patient interactions accurately and contribute to clinical audit and quality improvement activity.
• Participate in ICH operational duties as rostered and maintain scope of practice through CPD, peer mentoring, and education.
• Act as a clinical liaison to external partners including GPs, Police, and other statutory bodies.
• Contribute to safeguarding, frequent caller management, and performance reporting.
Closing date for applications is Tuesday 6th January 2026 at 6.00pm.
