Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a self directed, motivated individual with experience in the field of gynaecology /oncology to be part of an established team of Gynae- Oncology nurse specialists based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital Cancer Centre. This will be a 6-month secondment, to support the service.
Working as a key member of the Gynae-oncology multidisciplinary team, you will take on the role of key worker, providing support from diagnosis and throughout treatment to both patients and their carers.
The post holder will be expected to support the Lead Gynae Oncology Nurse Specialists and contribute to the strategic direction and delivery of a quality service to patients with gynaecological malignancies .You will have the key responsibility for the coordination and organisation of the patient pathway throughout the disease trajectory. Work to enhance communication across both professional and organisational boundaries in order to ensure co-ordinated patient care.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate up-to-date relevant clinical knowledge and experience in gynaecology and oncology.
RGN, 5 years post-registration, with relevant experience in Gynae-Cancer nursing and or relevant cancer course at 1st Level Nursing degree, plus MSc or working towards/prepared to undertake; a qualification accrediting 20 level III CAT points in this specialist area of nursing practice; and, accredited communication skills qualification.

The post holder will work in partnership with and provide cover for the Network Gynae Oncology CNS. They will work as part of the multi-professional team, ensuring that patients with gynecological tumors receive the highest standard of care and support from time of diagnosis onward. The post holder will represent the trust and the Lead cancer nurse at all meetings related to the cancer service framework and in particular those pertaining to Gynae oncology service.
In addition, the post holder will be expected to participate in the management and strategic development of the Gynae oncology service by:
o Being recognised as an expert in their field holding additional specialist knowledge and experience.
o Providing leadership in clinical practice for the professional team and peers, and ensuring effective learning experience for students through provision of an education environment.
o Actively disseminating best practice through publication and conference presentations and participating in nursing research and national working parties.
o The post holder is expected to develop this role in accordance with the work of Hamric, Spross and Hanson (1995), THE Trent report (2001) on Nurse Specialists, and the Novice to Expert Model (Benner 1986).

Essential criteria

Essential criteria
- Current knowledge of gynecological tumors in both surgical and oncological setting.
