Job overview

The Oncology division at the Royal Surrey is looking for a forward-thinking, experienced leader to join us as a specialty manger.

We are looking for someone who has a proven track record of operational NHS leadership and management experience to join our busy and forward-thinking Oncology division.  The role will require working alongside our large Oncology Medical workforce, as well as the admin and clerical support function in the outpatient setting.  Forming close links with the other divisions in the trust, as well as our Oncology outreach partner Trusts is an essential part of this role.
We are looking for someone who has excellent communication and organisational skills and can work independently with a broad range of professionals.

The Oncology division provides a large and busy service as part of the Royal Surrey Cancer centre, with a significant portion of its role providing care to the population of Surrey Heartlands.  The Oncology division puts patients at the heart of everything we strive to deliver and achieve. This post is instrumental in ensuring services run safely, with an excellent level of quality and strong governance processes in place, to ensure the patients are provided with a high level of care.
The nature of the work is fast paced and often involving complex and timely senior decision making on a regular basis.  The post holder needs to be comfortable working in this type of environment.

Main duties of the job

This Specialty Manager is a key position within the Division’s management structure, responsible for providing day-to-day operational management and support across the Oncology outpatient function, medical workforce and admin and clerical staffing.  In addition, the role is key to leading jointly with clinical leads a large amount of service transformation and networked working with other service leads across the division.

The Specialty Manager for Oncology Specialties is jointly responsible with the Clinical Directors and Matron for the effective strategic and operational management of the Oncology Strategic Business Unit’s (SBU), ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient services.
