About the role

Gastroenterologists provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management across a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. You'll work across inpatient and outpatient settings, supported by experienced teams, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests in areas such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), hepatology, or advanced  therapeutic endoscopy, while contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Salary and benefits
Base salary: NZD $185,380 – $267,980 (GBP £81,000 – £117,000 (based on the ASMS collective agreement, depending on experience)

Additional compensation: On-call and availability allowances where applicable
• Reimbursement of Medical Council registration and Annual Practising Certificate costs
• Funded Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance (NZD $16,000 per year pro-rata) GBP £7,000
• CME leave (up to 10 days per year)
• Six weeks of annual leave per year
• Twelve paid public holidays
• Long service, special leave and sabbatical entitlements
• Up to 14 weeks paid parental leave

What you need to work here
To practise as a Gastroenterologist in New Zealand, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate.
You will typically require an overseas qualification comparable to Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent and meet MCNZ requirements for vocational registration.

International Gastroenterologists with approved qualifications from Australia, the UK, the USA, Canada, or some European countries may be eligible for streamlined or fast-track registration, allowing you to start working in Aotearoa sooner.
