Job overview
An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Ipswich Hospital in the Cancer & Diagnostics Clinical Delivery Group (CDG).
We are inviting applications for a full time post, Consultant Radiologist - General Radiology with subspecialty interest in Oncology radiology.
Applicants must have completed CCT or equivalent (Pathway Portfolio) and must be on the Specialist Register.
The standard job plan attracts 10 PAs, of which initially 8.5 are for Direct Clinical Care (including 1PA for on-call) and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities. However, applicants who would like to work fewer PAs are welcome to apply, with the sessions and working pattern to be agreed between the post holder and the clinical director.
The 1.5 support activity (SPAs) will cover audit, administration, teaching, job planning, appraisal preparation etc. Additional SPA time may be given for work on specific tasks which benefit the Directorate or Trust, as agreed with the Clinical Service Lead.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:
• Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service of the highest standard
• Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
• Develop and maintain good working practices
• Provide effective clinical leadership for all staff in the service through positive collaboration with colleagues
• Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
• Have appropriate medical secretary support and office space, together with IT and internet facilities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holders’ duties will be primarily based at Ipswich Hospital, but their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust including Colchester site.
The post-holder will:
• Work in conjunction with colleagues to provide a comprehensive imaging service. The timetable is worked flexibly and will be agreed with colleagues.
• Provide specialist radiological advice and services to users of the radiology department, including MDT participation
• Accept responsibility for compliance with ionising and radiation regulations, along with radiation protection supervisor and the radiation protection officers
• Accept personal responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to him/her. Provide advice and information as required to clinical colleagues and other staff
• Share responsibility for the supervision, training, and professional development of radiology specialty trainees, radiographic staff and other departmental staff as necessary
• Attend regular departmental meetings and participate in department governance and service improvement initiatives.
The department is particularly looking for a candidate with clinical experience in a full range of gynaecological and thoracic imaging. Ideally the appointee would be able to independently perform and report pelvic US and MRI imaging, chest radiographs, thoracic and cardiothoracic CT.
Participation in both gynaecology and respiratory cancer MDT meetings will be timetabled and the post-holder will provide cover in conjunction with colleagues. Adequate preparation time will be allocated in line with RCR guidelines.
The trust is currently expanding the local lung cancer screening service, which is expected to cover the whole eligible catchment by 2027. There will be opportunities for the post-holder to become involved in this project.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration and Specialist accreditation or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
- FRCR or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree MD / PhD
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to supervise and report general and cross-sectional imaging
- Ability to perform general ultrasound techniques
- Ability to supervise, perform and report techniques in chosen area of expertise
Desirable criteria
- Fellowship / evidence of subspecialty training experience
Research Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge/experience of research in the Radiology field
- Ability to apply research findings to clinical problems
Desirable criteria
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Presentation at National / International meetings
