An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Neurophysiology Department at Southampton University Hospital.
We require a Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist to cover staff's maternity leave/career break.
The successful candidate will be working with a highly motivated and friendly team of Physiologists, Consultants, Specialist Registrars, and HCAs, performing a wide range of electrodiagnostics including EEGs (routine, 24 hour, home video telemetry and inpatient video telemetry), Evoked Potentials and NCS.
Tests are performed in the department, on the wards and in the operating theatre on both adult and paediatric patients. Working within the Wessex Neurological Centre, many rare and interesting neurological conditions are encountered, however we are also involved with other care groups such as cardiac, general intensive care, paediatric intensive care, SCBU and orthopaedics, working as an integrated multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be experienced in performing unsupervised EEGs and NCS on patients with a wide range of medical disorders including neurological and/or psychiatric, and should be comfortable in writing technical reports in a timely manner. Southampton's Neurophysiology service see many paediatric patients and so a child friendly approach is essential.
The candidate should be able to work collaboratively with other health professionals, ensuring that the needs of the service are met and they should be able to offer advice to trainees as well as health care professionals external to the department.
The applicant should be a qualified Clinical Physiologist/Clinical Scientist with suitable experience in the Neurophysiology field. They should demonstrate broad experience and familiarity in clinical EEG, EPs and NCS and although intra operative monitoring experience is not essential for this role, it would be desirable.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

- Bsc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) [CP(N)], BTEC HNC/D in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) or equivalent formal specialist training/experience and professional exam, Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology Board Examination Part 1 (ANS/ECNE/MSc Clinical Science (Neuroscience).
- Knowledge of specialist procedures acquired through specialist courses or relevant training experiences up to MSc level.
- Relevant post qualification experience.
- Able to perform a wide variety of investigations and or to have the highest level of specialist skills and knowledge within relevant field.
- Broad experience & familiarity in Clinical EEG of at least 4 years, including complex/advanced Evoked Potentials, ITU/Clinical department/operating theatre
- Able to interpret specialist Neurophysiological investigation results and patient’s conditions.
- Awareness of professional issues and objectives.

- Specialist training in Neurophysiological techniques including some advanced procedures.
- Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) registration.
- Assessment training qualification, (City and Guilds D32 or equivalent).
- Evidence of research projects.
- Supervisory experience. Experience in intra operative monitoring.
- Familiarity with XLTEK, Nihon Kohden and Nicolet Biomedical.
- Awareness of professional issues and objectives.
