An exciting Opportunity has arisen for ward manager. Are you a Clinical Leader looking to progress to a Ward Manager, or an experienced Ward Manager wanting a change?
Jubilee ward is 18 bedded and caters for older people experiencing enduring mental health issues with cognitive difficulties as their primary problem. We are looking for committed and conscientious ward manager to join our team. We operate a 24-hour service, as such the successful applicants will need to be willing to work 9-5. Applicants need experience of planning and delivery of effective programmes of care for people with mental health needs.
The ward is supported by dedicated care consultants and discharge co-ordinators and extended multi-disciplinary team along with an enthusiastic band of volunteer staff who keep our patients entertained and active.
We are seeking a caring, compassionate experienced Ward Manager who can demonstrate excellent leadership skills, can delegate effectively, and work effectively and efficiently as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be expected to work pre-dominately Monday to Friday. They will have 24-hour responsibility with support from senior nurses who provide a 7-day support for the Trust.
You will be reliable, flexible, motivated, have excellent clinical and managerial skills, a commitment to ongoing learning and development, a commitment to delivering high quality care and be willing and open to embracing positive change.
Main duties of the job
Staff Management and Supervision
• Provide strong, proactive clinical leadership to support, motivate, and inspire the nursing team.
• Maintain a visible presence on the ward and be accessible to staff, patients, carers, and colleagues.
• Act as Team Leader within the nursing framework, working collaboratively with the MDT to support staff development and maintain high standards of practice.
• Ensure safe staffing levels and an appropriate skill mix, balancing patient need with financial constraints.
• Coordinate nursing teams to ensure consistent, high‑quality care delivery.
• Ensure all staff receive annual appraisals and have up‑to‑date personal development plans.
• Monitor and manage sickness absence in line with Trust policy, ensuring supportive and timely interventions.
• Oversee annual leave planning to maintain safe cover and ensure staff wellbeing.
• Lead on recruitment, selection, and induction of new staff.
• Ensure safe working practices, addressing health and safety concerns promptly.
• Oversee rota management to ensure effective use of resources and safe staffing across the ward.

- Two years at Clinical Team Leader Band 6 or above.
- Budget and resource management understanding.

Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with older adults with dementia
