Childrens Rights & Sensory Education Practitioner

Tŷ Hafan is a beautiful children’s hospice located on the picturesque Vale of Glamorgan coastline. Covering South, East and West Wales, Tŷ Hafan offer a newly refurbished working environment set within idyllic grounds just a short distance from the metropolitan area of Cardiff.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Children’s Rights and Sensory Education Practitioner to join our friendly, dedicated team at Tŷ Hafan. This is a full time role of 37.5 hours per week, with a requirement to work flexibility over weekends and evenings.

About the role

Due to expansions in our offer of services, we are looking for a passionate and driven Practitioner to join our Family wellbeing and Outreach team and expand our existing educational services. The Children’s Rights and Sensory Education Practitioner role is responsible for ensuring appropriate support structures are in place to encourage children and young people’s participation across all areas of Tŷ Hafan service delivery, in particular those who do not have a voice.

Working alongside the Children’s right and education practitioner, the role will include the development and facilitation of appropriate sensory educational support pathways for children and young people with complex needs, who may be experiencing difficulties accessing statutory education provision due to their specific condition, sensory or communication impairments or emotional wellbeing needs, and to advocate for their rights and care needs within the hospice and in the community.

The post holder will require significant experience in working with children and young people with Complex health needs and understand the impact in which a life shortening condition affects the lives of children and be competent in a range of communicative tools to support children to be included and thrive.

Hours for the role are 37.5 hours. Applicants will be required to work flexibly, weekend and evenings will be required to accommodate service.

About us

Ty Hafan’s ambition is that when a child’s life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own. Sadly, we know that thousands of families across Wales face fear, exhaustion and uncertainty as they care for a child whose life will be short. We believe no-one should face this alone, and we are committed to walking alongside families through life, death and beyond.

We are experts in caring for children with life-shortening conditions. Our services support families in the hospice, in community settings, local hospitals and in the family home. We understand that every child and family is unique, and that caring for a child with complex needs can be incredibly demanding. Our aim is simple: to ensure no family faces their child’s short life alone.

Our colleagues, volunteers and supporters play an essential part in delivering this mission. Every role contributes to the lifeline we provide.

Our Vision: A Wales where every child with a life-shortening condition lives a fulfilling life, supported with the compassion and specialist care they and their family need.

Our Purpose: No family should have to face the unimaginable loss of their child alone. With children and families at the heart of all we do, we provide free care and support in our hospice and in the community, offering a lifeline throughout the child’s short life, at end of life, through bereavement and beyond.

Our Values: At Tŷ Hafan we make a difference by living our values:  Demonstrating Compassion, Providing Excellent Service, Working Together and Taking Ownership.
