Specialist Clinical Pharmacist (Medicine advice and Division B)

Band 7

Trosolwg o'r swydd

A great opportunity for an enthusiastic and clinically-focussed pharmacist to join the Southampton medicines advice service (SMAS) and division B clinical pharmacy team in a split role.

We’re looking for a pharmacist with strong clinical knowledge who is ready to progress their career in clinical pharmacy. This is a fantastic opportunity for personal development and will give you the chance to experience working in the Southampton medicines advice service for 2 days a week and working within the Division B clinical pharmacy team that cover the acute medicine unit, emergency department, inpatient medical and elderly care wards for 3 days a week.

Working in SMAS offers you intellectually rewarding responsibilities and valuable career experience as part of the Medicines Advice team.  You’ll provide a clinically-focused service, advise doctors, nurses, and pharmacists in primary and secondary care how to treat their patients safely and well. We also operate a busy patient helpline, so you will have the satisfaction of regularly advising our Trust’s patients about their medicines. Feedback from our enquirers shows that our clinical advice is extremely valued and improves patient care.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Counsel and advise patients after they’ve left our hospital via the Trust’s medicines helpline. This is a busy and professionally satisfying role that gives you patient contact throughout the day, even when you aren’t on your wards.
•    You’ll be advising on (and therefore learning about) a complete range of clinical specialities, and the clinical skills you’ll be honing are completely transferable to other areas of pharmacy. Whilst clinical problem solving is hugely important, we will equip you with many more skills to become a well-rounded and confident pharmacist.
•    Support patient flow in some of the busiest areas of the Trust by organising discharge medications in a timely manner.
•    Work closely with medical and nursing staff on the wards as part of the MDT, attending ward rounds and board rounds as required.
•    Ensure patient safety, medicines optimisation and effective therapeutic treatment.
•    Developing evidence based treatment guidelines in conjunction with primary care and the District Prescribing Committee
•    Undertaking audit and teaching within the multidisciplinary team
•    Developing the clinical skills of junior rotational staff
