Job overview
We are looking for a Physiotherapist to join our medical therapy team at Watford General Hospital.
This is a full time post, working 37.5 hours per week.
This post would be suitable for an experienced band 5 looking to progress in their career, or an existing band 6 looking to build on their skills.
You will be supported by a robust senior tier with a wealth of experience to help guide and support in both your individual learning needs but to also strive to ensure that the best standards of care are provided.
A well-established probation and appraisal process is in place to help facilitate this. We also offer In-Service training and CPD opportunities to develop your specialist skills. Opportunities and experience will be gained in the supervision of band 5 physiotherapists, assistants and undergraduates.
In addition, we have senior leadership training opportunities and a robust in-service training programme. There are also opportunities for course funding both externally and through the department’s links with the University of Hertfordshire.
The department is 7 day working and this post would be included in that rota (frequency of 1:4 - 1:6 weekends) with rest days in the following week, along with a requirement to be on the Respiratory on call evening rota.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would be providing highly skilled physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients across Medical Wards at Watford General Hospital.
The post holder should have experience with a variety of patient cohorts including general medicine, neurological conditions and oncology.
Candidates should have an awareness of discharge pathways within the NHS and social care.
The successful candidate will join a growing integrated team of OT’s and Physio’s and will have the opportunity to develop both their clinical and supervisory skills.
Excellent clinical reasoning and therapy handling skills are a prerequisite for this post.

Education and qualifications:
Essential criteria
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or equivalent recognised by Health Care Professionals Council.
- Physiotherapy degree qualification or equivalent.
- Documented evidence of Continued Professional Development of expanded specialist skills.
Desirable criteria
- Attendance at post graduate courses in relevant fields.
- Attendance at Student supervisors’ course.
Knowledge:
Essential criteria
- Understanding of Physiotherapy structure in NHS.
- Standards – Health Care Professions Council/ Chartered Society of Physiotherapy/ Local.
- Policies and Procedures (local e.g. Health and Safety).
- Ability to search and review evidence base.
- Understanding of clinical governance and the implications for the service.
- Evidence of written projects/audit.
Experience:
Essential criteria
- Clinical problem-solving ability.
- NHS experience.
- Skills in physiotherapeutic techniques.
- Highly developed physical skills, dexterity, coordination and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
- Willing to participate in emergency/on call duties.
- Ability to assess patient conditions establish a diagnosis and formulate a specialised treatment plan, from a range of modalities.
Desirable criteria
- Broad experience within a Band 5 or Band 6 rotational post including general medicine, neurology and oncology.
- Awareness of discharge pathways within the NHS and social care.
- Acute/Community experience.
- Respiratory on- call/emergency experience.
