Specialist Clinical Psychologist

West London NHS Trust provides a full range of mental health, community and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.
We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, registered with the HCPC, to join Hounslow CAMHS Neuro-Developmental Team (NDT). This vacancy would equally suit a newly qualified Psychologist or a Band 7 Psychologist with CAMHS experience looking to develop an expertise in ND work. We are seeking to employ a candidate with a real interest and commitment to working with young people with neuro-diversity.
You will be responsible for undertaking high quality evidence based assessments to young people referred to the service and offering therapeutic interventions (e.g. CBT) to those young people with co-morbid mental health disorders.

You will be responsible for undertaking Neuro-Developmental assessments, producing high quality written clinical assessment reports, and offering discrete assessments (e.g. WISC, 3di, ADOS) to young people open to our service. Training may be able in specialist assessment if required. All assessment work is discussed within MDT meetings and specialist Panel meetings to ensure that staff are supported in undertaking complex assessment. Staff report feeling supported in their assessment work within our service. Within this role you will also have the opportunity to offer some evidence based interventions for young people with co-morbid mental health problems. Such interventions include CBT however where formulation indicates other interventions would be supported. We would support training in further specialist therapies such as NVR or EMDR.
Other aspects to the role include offering, when appropriate, clinical supervision to other members of the psychology team, attendance at appropriate team meetings, and undertaking duty work. You will also contribute to the services ongoing Quality Improvement work.
You will be expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism throughout your duties and work in accordance with the Trust Clinical Governance Framework.

Training & Qualifications

- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS/HPC.

- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
- Training in the assessment of autism e.g. ADOS-II, 3di, ADI
- Post-doctoral/graduate training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice with children and young people.
- Clinical training as part of a CYP IAPT collaborative in a recognised evidenced based approach i.e. CBT, Parenting Skills or other.
Experience

- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of working with children and adolescents and their carer networks.

- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Experience of working with other agencies.
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Experience of assessment and intervention with children with autistic spectrum disorders and/or ADHD
Knowledge & Skills

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.

- Knowledge and skills in specialist neuropsychological assessment and treatment with children and young people with neuro-developmental difficulties
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. children with challenging behaviour, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).
- High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
