Job overview

Be part of shaping and developing our IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist service at imperial College NHS Trust.

We have a new and enthusiastic IBD nursing team who are highly motivated to develop an excellent service and provide high quality care to our patients.  We are recruiting to a new Band 7 CNS to work as part of this team, and in conjunction with a highly supportive multi-disciplinary team provide care for patients referred to our tertiary specialist inflammatory bowel disease service. The IBD team consists of a Lead IBD CNS, three Band 7 IBD nurses, administrative support all of which provides clinical support to patients across all three sites.

You will be well supported by the IBD team and work closely with the lead IBD consultant.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/ patients and relatives/ carers in collaboration with the multiprofessional team, in line with the local and national targets.
  • Provide telephone support/advice service for patients, carers and other health care professionals in order to ensure high quality appropriate care and management for patients.
  • To be actively involved in the development of Trust policies and procedures, providing specialist input, leading their implementation and reinforce their use.
  • Participate in scheduled nurse led IBD clinics, and in addition manage and review patients on an urgent basis where necessary, in order to provide and expert, efficient service and ensure effective contribution to chronic disease management.
  • Have continuing responsibility for the provision of a suitable, clean, uncluttered and safe environment for the physical and psychological well-being of staff, patients/clients and their relatives.
  • Be actively involved in staff education and development, including utilising appropriate learning opportunities and to act as a mentor and resource for student nurses, adaptation and unqualified members of the nursing team. 
  • In conjunction with the Senior IBD CNS Collate annual report relating to own and team activity.

Person specification

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Undergraduate Degree in nursing or related subject
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience.
  • Post registration experience in a relevant speciality.
Desirable criteria
  • Masters in related subject or studying towards MSc
  • Non -medical prescriber or willing to undertake
  • Post registration study/qualification relevant to speciality (inflammatory bowel disease)

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate commitment through involvement in Trust wide initiatives/ committees.
  • Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of own patient group
  • Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

  • Good IT skills, Understanding of office Works suite including PowerPoint
