the NHS. Our services include robotic surgery, ECMO, complex electrophysiology and advanced cardiac intervention. We are one of the five busiest Heart Attack Centres in the UK and host the 
largest Atrial Fibrillation Ablation centre in Europe.

The Coronary Care Unit (3A CCU) within the St Bartholomew’s Heart Centre is seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our established team. 
The CCU provides specialist care to a diverse range of cardiology patients, including those admitted via our high‑volume Heart Attack Centre and Direct Arrhythmia pathways. This role is 
suited to a nurse with substantial cardiology experience who can demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge, strong decision‑making skills and a commitment to high‑quality, safe and 
compassionate care.

Main duties of the job

 Provide expert clinical care to cardiology patients in a fast‑paced acute environment. 
• Act as a role model, demonstrating advanced practice and supporting junior colleagues. 
• Contribute to the effective running of the unit, supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with both clinical and operational duties. 
• Participate in service improvement and quality initiatives. 
• Support staff development through mentoring, supervision and teaching. 
• Ensure adherence to trust policies, professional standards and governance requirements.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN NMC registration
  • Cardiac / HDU specialist modules or working towards same.
  • Intravenous accreditation.
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship course or equivalent.
  • Immediate Life Support (ILS).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in coronary care unit nursing
  • Experience with shift coordination.
  • Experience providing direct supervision to junior nursing staff and students.
  • Experience identifying learning needs of others and actively supporting professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with performance management
  • Experience with roster writing.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code (2018).
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues
