Job overview

Applications are invited to apply for the above post in the Gynaecology Department at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.  The department is seeking a capable and motivated doctor who enjoys working in a tertiary referral service and wishes to effect change and improve care for patients within this service

The postholder will join an existing team of 18 NHS gynaecologists who together provide both a local gynaecology service to the population of Oxford and a highly specialist tertiary service in urogynaecology, reproductive medicine, endometriosis and Gynae-oncology.  This post is a Trust wide position and may involve clinical sessions at the Horton Hospital in Banbury and the John Radcliffe Hospital sites, as well as the community based Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) in Rosehill, Oxford.

The aim of this post is to better align capacity with demand in general gynaecology and to provide additional consultant capacity in the urgent care service as well as high quality gynaecological ultrasound.  The post also offers general and specialist clinics, and regular operating lists. Applications from candidates willing to participate in the termination service will be particularly welcome.

Main duties of the job

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust provides gynaecology services across three sites (John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford, Horton Hospital Banbury and the Churchill Hospital, Oxford). The successful applicant will work across all sites.  The post holder will be expected to undertake a combination of general gynaecology and specialist clinics.  It is anticipated that the specialist clinics will be undertaken in Rosehill Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit

The post-holder will be expected to undertake theatre lists (the majority of the surgery undertaken is minimal access) at the John Radcliffe hospital.

The post holder will manage in-patients at the John Radcliffe Hospital and undertake gynaecology on-call duties of no more frequent than 1:10 paid at a Band A supplement.  Competency should be maintained in diagnostic laparoscopy, management of miscarriage and ectopic for out of hours work.
