Emergency Medicine Registrars

Trade the burnout cycle for a world-class clinical move. Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is inviting UK and Irish-trained Emergency Medicine Registrars to join us for the 2027 clinical year.

If you're looking to swap high-pressure rosters for a system that prioritises clinical autonomy and a balanced rhythm of life, New Zealand is ready for you.

Why UK & Irish Registrars choose New Zealand:

  • Contracted for Balance: Enjoy 6 weeks of annual leave plus 12 public holidays. Our rosters are structured to ensure you have the capacity to explore the landscapes you've been eyeing - from the peaks to the coast.
  • Strategic Career Growth: Move beyond training bottlenecks. Gain hands-on procedural experience and senior-led supervision in an accredited system. Whether you are in a formal training program or a non-training role, your time in New Zealand is recognised toward your clinical experience and seniority.
  • A Supportive Practice Environment: Experience a collegiate culture with a focus on high-quality patient care. New Zealand's unique "no-fault" ACC system provides a non-adversarial framework for patient injuries, allowing you to practice with confidence in a supportive, professional culture.
  • Financial Certainty: Our Run Category system provides a transparent, predictable salary based on your rostered hours. Say goodbye to the administrative burden of chasing un-rostered overtime and enjoy clear financial certainty from day one.
  • Clinical Standards: You'll find clinical standards and professional expectations very similar to home, but within a system designed to offer a greater focus on clinical autonomy and professional well-being.
  • Choose Your Pace: From our major tertiary hubs in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch to the hands-on variety and close-knit communities of our regional districts, we have roles to fit every career goal.

The New Zealand Advantage

Moving across the globe is a significant step; we make the transition as seamless as possible:

  • Streamlined Registration: UK and Irish-trained doctors follow a well-established registration path. Our team provides dedicated support to help you navigate the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) requirements.
  • A Direct Path to Residency: For those looking for a long-term change, doctors are on Tier 1 of Immigration NZ's Green List, offering a "Straight to Residence" pathway that secures your future in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Global Recognition: Experience gained in New Zealand hospitals is highly regarded, ensuring your time abroad adds significant clinical value to your international portfolio.

A Competitive Global Package:

  • Inclusive Salaries: Registrar salaries are competitive and structured for simplicity. Your total salary is determined by your run category, removing the need for manual timesheets.
  • Full Support: We provide employer pension contributions (6% if eligible), cover your professional indemnity insurance, and offer dedicated relocation assistance to help you get across the globe.
  • Professional Growth: Access protected teaching time, dedicated study/exam leave, and specific funding for your continuing education.

Key Requirements:

  • Grade: Registrar (CT1-ST8/SHO-Registrar).
  • Experience: Preferably six months in Emergency Medicine runs (Paediatric Emergency Medicine is counted), and a minimum of 2 years clinical experience in a competent/comparable health care system.
  • Registration: Eligible for MCNZ registration.
  • Commitment: Available for a January/February 2027 start.
