Senior Clinical Fellow - Paed CEW & Endocrine

Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Endocrinology & Complication from Excess Weight Service (CEW) , Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) for up to 12 months.

This is a clinical fellow in the tertiary paediatric endocrine unit at RMCH. The fellow will be involved in clinical practice in Complication from Excess Weight Service, Paediatric Endocrinology, Metabolic Bone disorders, and inpatient diabetes work, and will be expected to undertake research work within allocated time also

Successful candidates will be able to gain experience in Paediatric Endocrinology Services and Research work.

  1. Lead CEW clinics, reviewing both new and follow-up patients alongside members of the CEW multidisciplinary team (MDT).

  1. Participate actively in the clinical management of patients attending CEW clinics.

  1.  Undertake and complete clinical research projects within the department, focussed primarily on metabolic bone health.

  1. Support the day-to-day functioning of the paediatric endocrine service and diabetes inpatient service as required, contributing to both inpatient and outpatient care. Carry out all task that would be expected for a endocrine resident doctor.

  1. Liaise with paediatricians in District General Hospitals regarding patient management, in collaboration with the endocrine consultants.

  1. Communicate with patients and families at home, working alongside endocrine consultants and nurse specialists.

  1. Review, interpret and summarise the results of endocrine investigations to support clinical decision-making.

  1. Prioritise clinical activities appropriately, ensuring urgent matters (including inpatient issues) are addressed promptly while making every effort to attend formal educational activities.

  1. Work under the supervision of both an educational supervisor and participate in regular appraisal, with support provided for the development of the fellow’s professional portfolio.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

As part of our commitment to safeguarding patients and staff, many roles at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This is a standard process across the NHS and helps us ensure a safe environment for everyone.

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role. 

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment.   If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

  • Experience in managing children with excess weight
  • Relevant contribution to management within Paediatrics/Neonates (rotas, committees etc)ttees etc)
  • Relevant experience in other specialties that would complement a career in Paediatrics/Neonates

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to be able to write & present reports at board level
