Within ELHT Maternity services, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent  post as central birth suite coordinator.  

The post holder will be an experienced Midwife who is dynamic, accessible and a responsive leader, able to provide effective, compassionate leadership, clinical expertise and professional advice to the maternity team they manage. They will be expected to ensure the provision of a high-quality service to women/persons and their families in line with best practice and local, regional and national guidance.

The post holder will carry responsibility and accountability on a shift basis, both managerially and professionally, for the management of the Delivery Suite, including the effective development and supervision of staff with regard to skill mix and dependency of care. They will encourage and support midwives to engage with the philosophy and principles of the midwifery agenda, thereby promoting normal birth.

The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the setting of standards, audit, research, infection prevention and control, and risk management activities.

The role enables opportunity for professional development and leadership within a dynamic area of the Maternity services, supporting the provision of safe, personal and effective care for high risk and vulnerable women and babies within the intrapartum period.

We are currently in progress with a variety of ongoing exciting quality improvement projects in line with the Maternity transformation programme.

The post holder will utilise well developed leadership skills, and specialist midwifery knowledge to :
• Provide management and leadership for a defined area or ward.
• With the Matrons, Deputy Head of Midwifery and Head of Midwifery, maintain adequate and safe staffing levels through safety planning, redeployment of staff and appropriate management of sickness and absence.
• Promote and initiate creative project and service developments which ensure optimal use of resources, for example, the use of peer support workers and engagement of service users.
• Ensure appropriate use of available resources, through effective use of a defined budget, i.e. - ordering and stock control.
• Provide all aspects of clinical midwifery care, with a focus on promoting positive outcomes for women and babies receiving care within the postnatal ward environment, as well as embracing additional duties as outlined within the Job Description and Person Specification.

Qualifications

  • Registered midwife, active on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register
  • Evidence of degree level qualification in Midwifery or related subject

Experience
