Working with the clinical teams, the SLT input varies from assessing and managing a new or deteriorating dysphagia, assessing speech, language and communicating difficulties, working directly or indirectly to implement treatment plans and representing SLT in the Care Programme Approach throughout a patient’s admission.

Previous experience working with people diagnosed with learning disability (LD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a mental health condition and/or challenging behaviours is desirable but not essential.

Clinicians with a proven competence working within physical health settings may well have the desirable transferable skills to fulfil this role.

Dysphagia experience is essential (equal to Level C/D – RCSLT framework or Level 3/4 – EDSCF framework). There will be the opportunity to develop future competence when working.

The Trust offers a SLT – CPD support Group and networking opportunities across the Trust and other High Secure Hospitals.
