Job overview

“Best of both” at the Whittington – The Whittington Hospital is a unique place. It combines the academic ethos of a University Hospital with the friendliness of a Rural DGH. The number of students and junior doctors who return as registrars and consultants is testament to the positive working environment and the collegiate atmosphere that has been created. Add in the lowest Standardised Mortality Ratio in the country and you have a hospital that is a great place to work.

The Acute Medicine Team is at the heart of daily life at the Whittington and we are now looking for an enthusiastic and committed consultant to join our team.

You will join the existing Acute Medicine consultant team in helping to deliver Acute Medicine Services.  You will also be on the GIM on call weekend and out of hours rota which is run from the larger cohort of GIM specialities combined with the Acute Medicine consultants.

You will have experience of a broad acute medical training and will be capable of handling the range of medical problems that occur within the setting of an acute hospital. You must be an effective team player and will be flexible in approaching new ways of working.

As well as having an absorbing job you will have numerous opportunities to continue to develop your career.

Interview date: 22 July 2026

**Please note that as per our Trust processes you will be expected to make yourself available to attend a face to face interview if successfully short listed for this post.**

Working for our organisation

Whittington Health serves a richly diverse population and works hard to ensure that all our services are fair and equally accessible to everyone. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the way we look after our staff.  We aim to employ a workforce which is as representative as possible of this population, so we are open to the value of differences in age, disability, gender, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, and religion or belief.  The Trust believes that as a public sector organisation we have an obligation to have recruitment, training, promotion and other formal employment policies and procedures that are sensitive to these differences. We think that by doing so, we are better able to treat our patients as well as being a better place to work.
