We have an exciting opportunity for an additional Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our CNS team. The successful applicant should be an experienced Haemato-Oncology nurse  with excellent communication skills and a good understanding of the Leukaemia treatment 
pathway. The major element of the CNS role is to work as the patient’s Key Worker to  support, inform and coordinate the care of patients with Leukaemia including supporting the patient through Stem Cell Transplant.
The post holder will work in the Specialist Haemato-Oncology Team and will be well supported both by their CNS colleagues and wider MDT. CNSs work collaboratively with our Consultant colleagues who are keen to develop the team. There are 12 Haemato-Oncology  CNS at SBH and they all work closely together to provide a wide range of specialist support 
including nurse led follow up and transplant coordination.
In the Barts Health Cancer Centre there are lots of opportunities for learning and developing skills and we support nurses in their professional development.
Our leukaemia CNS team supports patients throughout their pathway from diagnosis to end of treatment. St Bartholomew’s Hospital is a large allogeneic and autologous Stem Cell Transplant centre. Other treatments for leukaemia include chemotherapy & targeted  therapies including CAR-T.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist nursing care for patients  with Leukaemia and related disorders, and their families; from the point of diagnosis,  throughout the patient pathway, including stem cell transplant, to end of life care.

It is expected that the post holder is a clinical expert in Haemato-oncology care and can act as a resource for staff and an advocate for patients. 
The post holder will work within the SBH Leukaemia CNS team (3 WTE). This post is based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and liaises with the Haemato-Oncology CNSs based at referring hospitals. There are 12 Haemato-Oncology CNSs at SBH who share an office and 
work closely together.
It is expected that the post-holder attend the weekly Haemato-Oncology clinics, provide nurse led services for leukaemia patients and attend weekly MDT and transplant meetings. 
The post holder will influence the positive experience of patients and carers living with Leukaemia by working with the multi-disciplinary team across the Trust and acting as the patient’s key worker.
The post holder will promote safe, competent and evidence- based practice, in line with national objectives and within the clinical governance framework.
Advance skills in communication, listening and recognizing physical and psychological sideeffects are required to enable the post holder to advice, counsel and provide supportive care which will ensure best outcomes for patients with Leukaemia
