Specialist Doctor Cardiologist

We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialist Doctor Cardiologist who has an interest in General Cardiology and Heart Failure (inpatient and outpatient work) to enhance the existing cardiology team at Whipps Cross Hospital. The appointee will work a 10 PA job plan and the postholder will join will participate in a Specialist Doctor ward cover rota (1 in 8), providing inpatient care during normal working hours.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the Trust’s policy on Maintaining Medical Excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date

Main duties of the job

·  Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care. 

With the agreement of the Clinical Director and Clinical Academic Group Director, support the educational activities within the department

To participate fully in the management of the department and to liaise closely with the Clinical Director, Service Manager, General Manager and Clinical Academic Group Director.

The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

The duties outlined are not definite and may be changed in accordance with needs of the service requiring the post holder to be cooperative and flexible

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post is to enhance the existing cardiology team at Whipps Cross Hospital. The post holder will help WXUH cardiology in patient cover on a 1 in 8 basis (plus prospective cover), 0900 to 1700 Monday to Friday. When covering the ward week, other planned activities will be cancelled. Outpatient clinics will also take place at WXUH on a weekly basis. There may be the requirement to work 7 days in the future and discussions are in progress around this at present, where considerations such as time off in Lieu yet to be determined. An interest and experience in echocardiography is desirable.

 

This is an outline program, and the post holder will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with Dr Debashish Das (Clinical Leaad Whipps Cross Cardiology Services) to be approved by Dr Archbold (Director of the Network Cardiology Services Heart Centre) within 3 months of their start date.          

The post-holder should have at least 5 years’ experience in General. They will fully contribute to the administrative, teaching and research activities within the trust as well as taking responsibility for particular delegated areas according to their interests and availability. The Clinical Lead is responsible for delegating these responsibilities.

Essential criteria
  • MB BS, or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree, e.g. MD/PhD MRCP or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Widespread broad-based knowledge of General cardiology & heart .
  • Broad based knowledge of the application of echocardiography to a wide range of cardiovascular pathologies
  • Experience delivering tutorials, teaching sessions, and educational presentations to medical students and junior trainees
  • Previous involvement in academic activities, including collaboration with a university or medical school
Desirable criteria
  • Experience as a clinical lecturer/ honorary lecturer, or similar university-affiliated teaching role
  • Leadership excellence or medical teaching excellence or departmental award
  • Contribution to quality improvement (QI) projects within the cardiology service
  • Familiarity with risk assessments within clinical environments. -serious incident investigations
  • Involvement in service evaluation and pathway redesign

Training Expected

Essential criteria
  • Competent and trained At least 5 years experience in general cardiology, heart failure, complex cardiac care,valvulopathies,arrythmias

Management/Audit Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy
  • Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare
  • Experience of audit management
  • Experience of quality assurance in cardiovascular imaging

Academic Achievements/Research /Publications

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate personal experience of clinical research and describe and discuss findings and impact
  • Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to cardiology
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems
  • Demonstrate number of publications in indexed journals, over a variety of subjects relevant to this post
