Trosolwg o'r swydd

An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Colchester Hospital within Ophthalmology as a Clinical Fellow in Cataract Surgery. 

This is a full-time clinical and surgical fellowship post for the period of one year (with the possibility to extend for another year as a Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Fellow). At the end of the training period the cataract fellow will have acquired advanced skills to a level where the fellow is able to work as a consultant providing a high quality service.

This post is designed to support this service and to ensure that patient waiting times are maintained within target.

The Fellow will be an integral part of Surgical Ophthalmology Service (SOS). The Cataract Fellow will be exposed to and trained in current state-of-the-art advanced diagnostic, medical, and surgical techniques in the management of anterior segment disorders including Leica Ophthalmic Microscope Proveo 8, Alcon Centurion phaco machines, Heidelberg Spectralis OCT and Heidelberg Anterion, Zeiss IOL Master, Ellex Tango Combined YAG and SLT laser.

The fellows are expected to actively undertake research and publish during their fellowship and be involved in education and supervision of junior doctors. In addition, fellows also participate in the emergency department rosters.

  • Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Experience and broad knowledge of General Ophthalmology and Retina
  • Experience in Cataract Surgery
  • Good Clinical Judgement Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate (for Research)
  • Three years of experience in Ophthalmology
  • Potential to cope with stressful situations & undertake responsibility
  • Good communication & organisational skills
  • Team player

  • FRCOphth Or MRCOphth or equivalent
  • Experience in Retinal Imaging
  • Experience and management of Retinal diseases
  • Use of Database Systems and Electronic Patient Records (i.e. Medisoft)
  • Demonstrated commitment to specialise in Retina
  • Be near to or completed Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology
