Job overview

We are seeking a passionate and highly experienced midwife with a strong background in supporting pregnant women, unborn babies and families during the antenatal and postnatal periods. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent safeguarding knowledge, sound professional judgement and a commitment to improving safety, wellbeing and outcomes within an acute hospital setting.

Main duties of the job

  • Review patient records and relevant information to support clinical staff in developing safe plans of care and identifying appropriate next steps.
  • Provide expert safeguarding support across maternity services and a wide range of acute hospital specialties.
  • Work collaboratively and share relevant information with external agencies, including health visitors, General Practitioners (GPs), social care, children’s centres, domestic abuse services and drug and alcohol services.
  • Delivering safeguarding training, advice and supervision to staff, promoting consistent best practice across the Trust.
    Advocating for women, unborn babies and children in safeguarding meetings, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams to promote their safety and wellbeing.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of continuing CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification preferable

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with safeguarding issues
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • At least 1 year acute Trust experience.
  • Experience of working with pregnant women with complex medical/social needs
  • Experience of problem solving or initiating complex care plans (e.g. complex discharge plans)
Desirable criteria
  • Community midwifery experience.
  • Passed preceptorship
  • Evidence of an understanding of safeguarding legal and CSC processes
  • Experience of safeguarding supervision
  • Experience of inter-agency working

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Self-discipline and good time management
  • Ability to adapt to change within the working environment and facilitate change and motivate others
  • Sound IT skills
  • Awareness of current professional issues within midwifery
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues
  • Knowledge of current safeguarding legislation/guidance
  • Knowledge regarding Domestic Abuse/Modern Slavery & Contextual Safeguarding
