Job overview
The Orthodontic department at Southend University Hospital is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting teeth and jaws.ie tooth malocclusions. As the dental nurse in the department, you will assist the team in delivering excellence by way of safe, effective holistic care to all our patients.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will demonstrate effective leadership and communication skills, ensuring patients, colleagues, and families are treated with respect, dignity, and compassion at all times. They will communicate clearly and appropriately, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information and utilising incident reporting systems where required. The role requires the ability to work independently, using initiative to support the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
Key responsibilities include preparing patients for consultations, examinations, orthodontic procedures, review appointments, and joint clinics with the Maxillofacial team. The post holder will support clinicians during procedures by confirming patient identity, assisting with clinical tasks such as retraction and aspiration, and managing exposure to bodily fluids in line with infection prevention standards.

Knowledge & Experience

- Experience of working in a practice/hospital environment as a Qualified Dental Nurse
- Donning/Doffing PPE
Desirable criteria
- Orthodontic nursing in a hospital environment.
Communication Skills
Essential criteria
- Good organisation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of IT systems.
