Lung Cancer Screening Responsible Assessor (Nursing)

Royal Surrey County Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Lung Screening Responsible Assessor to join our expanding Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) service. This Band 7 role is central to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred lung screening assessments and ensuring safe, effective pathways for those at risk of lung disease.
You will act as the clinical lead for assessment within the Royal Surrey TLHC programme, providing expert decision‑making, robust clinical governance, and high‑standard documentation. The post holder will also be expected to provide cross‑cover for Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals (ASPH) during periods of leave, ensuring continuity of service across both sites.
The post holder will be expected to provide expert clinical judgement and escalation where required. Support service development, audit, and quality improvement. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team across both Trusts. Ensure safe and efficient cross‑cover for ASPH when their Assessor is unavailable
We’re looking for a confident, autonomous practitioner with strong clinical assessment skills, experience in respiratory or cancer pathways, and a passion for early diagnosis and prevention. Excellent communication, organisation, and decision‑making abilities are essential.

The Lung Cancer Screening Programme (LCSP) aims to detect lung cancer at an earlier stage, improving outcomes and saving lives.
The post holder provides clinical leadership for the day‑to‑day delivery of the LCSP at The Royal Surrey County Hospital, working collaboratively with Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital.
The role includes clinical assessment, governance, service development and MDT coordination.

The post holder is the main clinical contact for the LCSP. They will deliver nurse‑led clinics, lead and facilitate weekly Screening Review Meetings (SRM) with ASPH, ensuring patients are placed on the correct pathway and that results are processed in accordance with national and local LCSP standards.
The post holder will manage incidental findings, ensure timely onward referral, provide governance oversight, lead audit and quality improvement activity.

- Registered Nurse (NMC)
- Study at level 6 (degree /diploma
- Willing to undertake LCS National minimum standards in nurse training.
- Leadership qualification or relevant post graduate qualification – i.e. post graduate diploma or masters

- Teaching and Assessing Qualification
- Respiratory qualification e-IRMER training
- MSc Level or working towards
Knowledge
