Job overview

An opportunity for a fixed term post within the Medicine Division has arisen with the potential for a substantive post in future.

This role would have three main aspects:
Ward consultant work on Granger ward, this is an Oncology ward with a small cohort of Haematology patients. The role will cover the oncology patients with the Haematology team providing reviews for the Haematology patients.
Medical Outliers, providing inpatient reviews for medical outliers in non-medical beds
Medical Admission Unit (MAU). Providing medical cover in MAU for ambulatory day patients as needed.
Physician of the Day (POD). Joining the medical team (POD) rota. Frequency to be determined

Main duties of the job

Ward consultant work on Granger Ward. Granger is a 27 bedded ward in the Shrodells building. Work involves leading the daily consultant ward round, attending board rounds, leading the resident doctor team, attending meetings, planning discharges and handing over as required.

Medical Outliers. Ensuring that medical patients in non-medical beds receive a review, this will ensure improved quality of care and help expedite discharges and improve capacity. On days with no or a small quantity of medical outliers, the consultant will be expected to conduct an afternoon ward round.

Medical Admission Unit (MAU). Providing medical cover in MAU for ambulatory day patients as needed. MAU is an underused resource now and the postholder will expand MAU usage, liaising with general medicine, AP and VH teams to develop this.

Physician of the Day (POD). Joining the medical take (POD) rota. Frequency to be determined. The postholder will join the POD rota as one of the Medicine Division representatives. This involved medical post take duties Mon-Thursday 5pm-9pm, Friday 1pm-9pm, and weekend days (short and long) plus overnight on call remote from home (low intensity).
