We are offering a 10 month fixed term/secondment opportunity for an Assistant Specialty Manager (ASM) to work as part of our Community Urgent Care operational team. This role provides a fantastic chance to test out a management role, develop new skills, and gain experience in an area that is becoming increasingly important as NHS policy shifts towards delivering more care outside of hospitals.

Main duties of the job
You will work closely with the wider community team, supporting the operational management of our Community Urgent Care services, including:
• Single Point of Access
• Hospital at Home
• Urgent Community Response
• Milford Integrated Care Hub
• Intermediate Care Team
You will:
✔ Support daily service operations, acting as a key point of contact for clinical and operational teams.
✔ Oversee and analyse service data, ensuring accurate reporting & performance monitoring.
✔ Assist in managing staffing plans & recruitment processes.
✔ Support service improvement projects, helping to drive change & efficiency.
✔ Engage with stakeholders & senior managers, developing your leadership and communication skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Assistant Specialty Manager will work closely and provide support to the Service Delivery Manager in the Community Urgent Care Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The Assistant Specialty Manager will also work collaboratively with the wider Community Division, Acute Specialties within the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and other key stakeholders such as Primary Care, Procare, Adult Social Care, SECAmb and partners in the voluntary sector. Key working relationships will include: clinicians, service managers and wider internal and external stakeholders.
The post holder will assist with co-ordination of service improvement work to support service transformation and development working with clinicians, and service managers. A key role is the day to day management of all administrative and clerical services within the allocated services. Working closely with the Service Delivery Manager to ensure that the services meet and achieve national performance indicators, as well as all quality, activity and financial targets and indicators.

Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or demonstrable equivalent experience
- Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge to post graduate diploma level or equivalent
Knowledge

- Demonstrable operational management experience within the NHS
- Knowledge of community urgent out of hospital service requirements as outlined by the DOH
- Excellent IT skills
- Strong analytical ability
- Presentation skills
- Knowledge & understanding of waiting lists
- Knowledge of running reports from clinical EPR
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of project management to facilitate service change
- Knowledge of NHS Data Protection legislation, Information Governance, Caldicott guidance
- Experience of managing /developing teams
- Evidence of comprehension of managing budgets
