Job overview
Undertakes advanced neurological assessment of patients including those with highly complex presentations and from this formulates a diagnosis and treatment plan which is carried out as an autonomous practitioner.
Takes a lead role in the supervision, teaching and appraisal of therapists, therapy assistants, undergraduate therapy students (including those at Masters level) and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Initiates and participates in evidence based projects and is responsible for implementing changes within designated team/area and setting and monitoring standards of practice.

Working for our organisation
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the physiotherapy service at St George’s Hospital, Queen Mary’s Hospital (Roehampton) and St John’s Therapy Centre. This post is part of the Neurosciences Physiotherapy rotation scheme in the following areas: Neurosurgery, Neuro-Outreach, Acute Stroke (HASU and ASU), Tertiary acute neurology, Neuro-outpatients (including vestibular rehabilitation), Community Neuro Team and Neuro-rehabilitation. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice to people with neurological conditions.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of CPD, in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio, including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field
Desirable criteria
- Working towards MSc
- Special interest group membership
Experience
Essential criteria
- NHS experience (can include undergraduate experience).
- Broad range of experience at junior level including ICU, medical, surgery, neurology, outpatients and elderly care
- Participation in on-call and weekend rota
- Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and multidisciplinary team
- Ability to form a sound prognosis and advise other members of the MDT
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience at Band 6 level
- Student supervision / clinical education
- Experience of the research process
- Teaching experience in in-service programs
- Committee membership, e.g. health and safety
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Remains updated with professional practice and new research
- Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession
- Good assessment skills based on a sound clinical reasoning approach including the assessment of symptom behaviour, history taking and gathering of physical/objective testing and hypothesis formation
- Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner
- Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
- Willingness to participate in staff training
- Ability to work with multi/interdisciplinary team and set team goals
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and the implications for physiotherapy services including experience of quality issues and audit
