Paediatric ED Staff Nurse- Band 5 

Are you a qualified or soon to be qualified children's nurse?

Are you interested in a career providing emergency care to children and their families?

Are you looking for a fast paced, interesting and varied role?

If so we are looking for motivated, dynamic nurses to join our team!

With strong nursing leadership, a dedicated Paediatric Lead Nurse and a Professional Development nurse to guide and support you in conjunction with an allocated mentor.

Within 2 years of joining the Trust you will be offered the following courses:

PILS (Paediatric immediate life support)

TILS  (Trauma immediate life support)

Paediatric HDU / Children’s Emergency nursing

Qualification in Specialism for Paediatric Emergency Nursing, which is accredited by the RCN.

EZ-IO - Intraosseous Vascular Access System

These training opportunities and more offer the ideal stepping stone to a junior sister role –we are keen to develop and support nursing growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Responsibilities

Assess, plan and implement care for children on arrival to the treatment area and prioritise need for clinical intervention after the appropriate training.                                         

To develop an area of clinical interest to improve the care & services offered to children and their families.

Maintain effective communication with colleagues and patients and their families, assessing and supporting children and their families with understanding of their illness, health promotion and prevention of future illness.

To ensure the safe administration of medicines in accordance with local policy and NMC guidelines, including Patient Group Directions.

Provide support for children/young people and their families. Direct them to relevant services if appropriate.

To ensure high standards of patient care at all times.

Ensure an appropriate, welcoming and safe environment is provided for children and their families. As much as possible, this should be audio-visually separate from adults and in line with National Service Framework recommendations.

To develop and keep clinical knowledge and skills updated, including developing and maintaining extended clinical role skills, following appropriate training.

Assist in the identification of any child protection issues and make referrals to appropriate multidisciplinary team members including social services.

  • NMC Registered Nurse CHILD or on an approved university based nursing course leading to registration with the NMC in the next 3 months

  • IV Drug administration competency (competency can be undertaken in post)
  • Cannulation

  • Practices in line with the NMC Code of Conduct and guidelines.
  • Awareness of the current issues within Emergency nursing.
  • Able to deliver safe medicines practice.
