Job overview

Our Band 6 rotation includes all general areas, theatres, maxillo – facial, CT and fluoroscopy. There may also be opportunities to rotate through MRI, Mammography and the Cardiac Cath Lab.

Your rotation also has the benefit of extending out to our community sites based in:

  • Haslemere – Haslemere is a quaint and charming market town located in the South of Surrey. The hospital houses one X – ray room and one Ultrasound room with a busy Urgent Treatment Centre. We are also looking at adding an additional ultrasound room out here and considering options for the best use of additional space
  • Milford – Based in the quiet village, Milford Hospital is now home to our brand new state of the art Community Diagnostic Centre, housing 2 MRI scanners and a CT scanner. Additionally we have one X- ray room and two Ultrasound room.
  • Cranleigh – Situated at the foot of Surrey Hills, Cranleigh is a picturesque and vibrant village and home to Cranleigh Village Hospital. We have one X – ray room and one Ultrasound room here.  With the help of the League of Friend Charity, Cranleigh will be receiving a refurbishment in 2026 which will include the installation of a brand new DEXA service.

Main duties of the job

  •     Demonstrate levels of responsibility and initiative to assist radiologists during radiological investigations and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate patient records to reflect the service provided and meet professional standards.
  • Supervise junior radiographers, support ancillary staff and students, as required.
  • Assist with administering radiographic Iodine based contrast medium as per departmental protocol. Ensure own resuscitation training is up to date to the level of Immediate Life support (ILS).
  • Assist in the clinical instruction of student radiographers in conjunction with the training co-ordinators.

  • Ensure optimal use of specialist, highly complex equipment associated in the production of diagnostic radiographic procedures and be involved with training requirements within the team, as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To independently assess and justify examinations under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations IR (ME) R 2017.

To perform imaging examinations at a consistently high technical and professional standard of work, and to evaluate the clinical quality of images produced having first liaised with the radiologist/ Cardiologist.

Seek out any guidance required, for example, when requests fall outside departmental protocol and / or personal experience.

Assess, prioritise and organise own workload within assigned area and work within own professional scope of practice.

   Work independently when providing an on-call service to patients requiring urgent imaging due to trauma or acute illness.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Hold an appropriate professional qualification recognised by college of radiographers D.C.R or BSc in Diagnostic radiography
  • Previous CT experience
Desirable criteria
  • Registered with HPC (Health Professionals Council).

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of PACS and RIS system.
  • Experience in Cardiac Cath Lab.
