Are you an experienced Emergency Department nurse ready to take the next step in your leadership career? Join one of the UK's largest and most innovative NHS Trusts as a Senior Charge Nurse within our dynamic Adult Emergency Department.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Emergency Nurse to lead operational activity on shift, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, drive patient flow, and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. You will act as a clinical role model, support the achievement of the 4-hour operational standard, and contribute to service improvement, education, workforce development and governance.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Adult Nurse with significant Emergency Department experience at Band 6 level or above, strong clinical decision-making skills, and a passion for developing others. You will have experience managing teams, supporting quality and safety initiatives, handling operational pressures, and delivering excellent patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, providing specialist advice and actively seeking evidence based practice which will improve the quality of care and meet the needs of a group of patients.
  • Demonstrate a holistic approach to caring including appropriate level of physiological; pathological; spiritual, socio-economical and cultural aspects for your patients.
  • Demonstrate specialist advanced clinical skills in all aspects of emergency nursing. 
  • Exercise effective leadership and maintain an awareness of the individual needs of the staff. 
  • Promote and facilitate the development of professional nursing practice.
  • Provide a positive learning environment and role model for students, staff and patients.
  • Organise your teams to ensure all staff attend mandatory training and maintain appropriate records. 
  • To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service. To have responsibility for the Health, Safety and Welfare of self and others and to comply at all times with the requirement of the Health and Safety Regulations.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Post-registration emergency nursing education (A&E Course, acutely unwell Adult, Emergency Practice or Equivalent Experience)
  • Practice Assessor
  • ILS/ALS
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant Master's Degree
  • Leadership Training
  • Advanced Trauma Nursing Course (Or Equivalent Level 2 Trauma course) Or ability to undertake in a year

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience minimum of 2 years or more in emergency medicine at Band 6 level
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Audit or Research
  • Experience in critical care setting

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Organisation, administrative and management skills
  • Teaching and the ability to lead a team.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to perform clinical activities specific to speciality
  • Ability to work within all areas of the emergency department
  • Competency in medication administration including IV drugs
