Job overview

We are looking for a motivated individual to join the Pharmacy Homecare Team at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation (NCIC) Trust for a period of 6 months. This maternity cover post will be part of the Homecare team for the Trust. Full training will be given.
The Homecare team provides services to a variety of clinical teams in the Trust to ensure the patients get an excellent quality and safe Homecare medicines delivery, working with a large number of Homecare providers across the UK. Homecare ensures the Trust and commissioners use best value services and work towards using cost-effective treatments and services as soon as they become available.

Main duties of the job

A Homecare Technician works as part of a team, and the main duties are:

Work primarily with out-patient clinics, ensuring that the principles in the DH Patient Charter for Homecare Services are upheld.

Obtain consent from patients identified for homecare services, ensuring registration forms are completed and explaining homecare processes to patients. Counsel patients in relation to their medicines, particularly those medicines delivered via homecare processes.

Act as a first point of contact for patients with queries and complaints about homecare services.

Process and manage prescriptions for the Homecare service under Trust procedures.

Work with medical staff and specialist nurses within designated clinical areas, identifying opportunities for increased used of homecare. Liaise between clinics and pharmacy to ensure best homecare outcomes are achieved for patients.

Assist in the management of invoice queries and processing.

Assist in the monitoring of key performance indicators to track the performance of the Homecare service.

  • BTec in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Further pharmacy-specific qualifications to NVQ Level 4, or acknowledged equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Accuracy Checking certificate.
  • Medicines Management Certificate.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post-registration employment, including recent experience of provision of medicines via homecare
  • Patient counselling
  • Presenting data in a variety of formats
Desirable criteria
