Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our services working across the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Community and Hospitals NHS Group. 

This split role provides the opportunity to work across both the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team (CNRT) and the Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy Service. The postholder will support adults with a wide range of complex communication and swallowing needs in community clinics, patients' homes and wider community settings.  

The successful candidate will become part of an integrated multidisciplinary workforce, working alongside a team of friendly, experienced speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, assistant practitioners and administrators to deliver high-quality person-centred rehabilitation and care. 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The post holder will be based in Shrewsbury and will provide services across Shropshire, Telford and WrekinThe post includes three days within the CNRT and two days with the Adult Community SLT Service. 

You will deliver speech and language therapy to adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. Your caseload will cover a wide range of diagnoses including stroke, acquired brain injury, Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, and other long-term health conditions.  

You will provide person-centred, goal-focussed assessment and management with the aim of supporting people to maximise independence, participation and quality of life. 

You will assist in service development including quality improvement initiatives, audits, supporting students on placement and delivering training programmes. 

There are regular opportunities for continuing professional development both within and outside the teams. All SLTs have regular clinical and management supervision. We can refer to specialist clinics including Videofluoroscopy, FEES and ENT and SLT-led nasendoscopy voice clinics and attending these appointments with your patient is encouraged. 

The role offers excellent opportunities for developing skills in managing a neurological caseload, supported by our friendly and experienced teams.

Training and Qualificatons

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent qualification
  • Current registration with HCPC
  • Post graduate certificate in dysphagia (or equivalent substantial experience and experiential training to demonstrate skills)
  • To be eligible for Certified membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. ie.to have completed all NQP competencies
  • Evidence of post graduate training/CPD in areas of acquired neurological communication and swallowing disorders

Experience

  • Experience of carrying out specialist assessment and intervention within area of acquired neurological communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working.
  • Experience of supervising and giving feedback to others e.g. students, qualified staff and rehabilitation assistants.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to neurological assessment and rehabilitation.
  • Ability to prioritise, delegate and organise with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Skilled in the use of IT, including Microsoft 365 and Apps/programmes used in the assessment, treatment and management of clients with communication difficulties.
