Chief Cardiac Physiologist – Non-Invasive (Band 7)

We are seeking a forward thinking, dynamic, and motivated individuals to work in the Cardiac Diagnostics in a role primarily based at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), with opportunities for cross-site working across the Barts Health network.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chief Cardiac Physiologist – Non-Invasive to join our expanding Cardiorespiratory Physiology team.
This role is primarily based at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), with opportunities for cross-site working across the Barts Health network. It offers an exciting opportunity to lead and develop high-quality non-invasive cardiac diagnostic services within one of the UK’s largest cardiovascular centres. The post-holder will be required to work autonomously (or will be trained, dependent on background experience) across the services.
We have a supportive environment for training and development which can include attendance at National Conferences. You will be expected to demonstrate experience consistent with this grade to support the current service and to contribute fully to the improvement and advancement of the service.

The post holder will provide highly specialised non-invasive cardiac diagnostic services, primarily based at University College London Hospitals, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care across a diverse population. The role involves autonomous practice in the analysis and reporting of complex cardiac investigations, alongside contributing to service development, quality assurance, and education.
Key responsibilities include the independent reporting of GP electrocardiograms (ECGs) as part of Advice and Guidance pathways, ensuring timely and clinically accurate interpretation to support primary care decision-making. The post holder will lead and contribute to quality assurance processes within the non-invasive service, maintaining compliance with departmental, national, and professional standards
The role also encompasses the analysis and reporting of ambulatory monitoring, including Holter ECGs and blood pressure recordings. In addition, the post holder will play an active role in education and training of junior staff, students, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
There will be opportunities to rotate to Barts Health NHS Trust to further develop specialist skills in cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and exercise tolerance testing (ETT), contributing to cross-site collaboration and service enhancement.

- Significant post-qualification experience in non-invasive cardiac physiology
- Demonstrable experience in analysis and reporting of ambulatory ECG (Holter) and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

- Experience in staff supervision, mentorship, or line management
Skills

Knowledge

- Advanced knowledge of ECG interpretation, including arrhythmia recognition and clinical significance

- Knowledge of CPET and ETT principles and interpretation
- Knowledge of current research and developments in cardiac diagnostics
Qualifications

- BSc Clinical Physiology (or equivalent).
- Immediate Life Support.
- Relevant training in non-invasive cardiology diagnostics

- Diploma in ECG interpretation (e.g. Society for Cardiac Science and Technology )
- Registration with the AHCS or HCPC.
