About the roles

Diagnostic Radiologist

Diagnostic Radiologists provide consultative support to ensure appropriate imaging is selected, participate in multidisciplinary clinical meetings and case reviews, and contribute to quality improvement, audit, and peer review activities that strengthen patient outcomes and service performance.

Subspecialty practice opportunities include the following:

• Abdominal/Body
• Breast
• Cardiac
• Chest/Thoracic
• Emergency
• Ear, Nose and Throat
• Musculoskeletal
• Nuclear Medicine/Molecular Imaging and Therapy
• Neuroradiology
• Oncology
• Paediatrics
• Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• Interventional Radiologist

Interventional Radiologists manage patient care from diagnosis through to recovery, with opportunities to perform advanced image-guided procedures across a broad range of specialties.

Responsibilities may vary by position and could include some or all of the following:

• Peripheral vascular interventions
• Biliary drainage and embolisation
• Nephrostomy tube insertion
• Trauma embolisation
• Tunnelled IV access and fistula interventions
• EVAR/TEVAR procedures (opportunity to be involved if desired)
• Interventional oncology procedures, including trans-arterial embolisation and image-guided ablation such as RFA, MWA, Cryoablation, and IRE

Opportunities are available for Radiologists with general and/or subspecialty interests in:

• Interventional Radiology
• Interventional Neuroradiology
• Interventional Oncology
• Interventional Vascular

About you

To work as a Diagnostic or Interventional Radiologist (Senior Medical Officer) in New Zealand, you must be registered to practise with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You will need to hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) or an equivalent international postgraduate specialist qualification. Practitioners must meet competency standards and hold Annual Practising Certificates (APCs) to work safely and effectively.

Salary, benefits and leave

Salary:

• The average salary package for Radiologists in New Zealand is GBP £149,290 (NZD $343,500)
• Packages are comprised of a base salary based on experience, plus allowances, and superannuation per the ASMS collective agreement
