Working with the Community Children’s Nursing Team, you’ll provide specialist care and support to children and young people with a wide range of health needs, helping them achieve the best possible outcomes.
 
You’ll work closely with families, carers, education providers and health and social care professionals to deliver personalised care in community settings and ensure children receive safe, high-quality support

What you’ll do:

  • Assess, plan, deliver and review care for children and young people with acute, complex and palliative care needs 
  • Provide nurse-led clinics, including areas such as wound care, continence support and phlebotomy 
  • Work with families, schools and partner organisations to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) 
  • Deliver health education and practical support to children, parents, carers and colleagues 
  • Safeguard children and work collaboratively with multi-agency teams to promote their wellbeing and safety 
What we’re looking for:
  • A Registered Nurse with current professional registration 
  • Knowledge of child development, safeguarding and the health needs of children cared for in the community 
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with children, families and professionals 
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive team 
  • A commitment to continuous learning, evidence-based practice and high-quality care

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse – RN(Child), RSCN
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Mentorship training
  • Post registration training relevant to role and evidence of continuing professional development

Knowledge

  • Understanding of child development and the well child, along with recognition of the sick child and evidence of up to date clinical skills
  • Knowledge in relation to health needs of children being cared for in the community
  • Proficient with information technology, e.g. electronic care records, administration systems and emails etc.
  • Good understanding of local current safeguarding policies and guidelines

  • Ability to delegate duties and prioritise workload

Experience

  • Experience of completing developmentally appropriate health needs assessments for children and young people
  • Experience of formal or informal teaching and a willingness to develop/contribute to teaching and training programmes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to effectively engage with multi-disciplinary teams and other health professionals

  • Experience of multiagency working
  • Experience of working in a community setting
  • Post registration experience of working with children/young people, and families
