Job overview
The postholder will provide senior professional strategic leadership for Children and Young People (CYP) services delivered Trust wide. Using the four pillars of clinical excellence, education, leadership and research, they will ensure the delivery of safe, high‑quality, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate care for children, young people, and their families.
Main duties of the job
· Lead on improving quality and outcomes for CYP in the acute and community setting, ensuring the operational delivery and performance in line with Trust standards of care and National targets/agendas for CYP.
Be a subject matter expert who provides clinical leadership with excellent communication systems in place internally, externally on a local, regional, and national platform.
Act as the senior nursing representative for CYP services, providing clinical and strategic leadership for CYP nursing across the Trust.
Lead the implementation of the CYP Nursing Strategy and CYP Transformation Plan, championing the CYP agenda and providing assurance on quality, safety, and performance.
Work strategically in partnership with other local NHS organisations, non-NHS organisations, the Local Authorities, with independent contractors and the public to facilitate the implementation of best practice in relation to CYP.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Demonstrate highly developed nursing skills with a proportion of time being devoted to clinical practice to ensure best practice and standards are embedded.
· To work as an independent and autonomous expert practitioner providing expert advice and support to clinical areas providing specialist advice and opinion following assessment of the situation. Contribute to MDT decision-making for complex children and young people, including children and young people with specialist educational needs and those with mental health concerns.
· To undertake clinical site/department/service visits to support the clinical assurance process in ensuring the care and treatment of CYP meets the Trust policy and standard operating procedures
To facilitate and challenge clinical practice and processes and involve relevant staff in improving patient experience and outcome. Developing approaches for the utilisation of best practice and research evidence which supports nursing and improves patient experience
· To provide assurance that systems and processes are in place to monitor patient safety, clinical and quality performance and to take remedial action when required
· Provide consultancy both within the Trust and externally for partner organisations as an acute care CYP clinical expert.
· Work at the forefront of practice innovation, creating precedence, generating, monitoring, and evaluating practice protocols to advance professional practice.
· Function at an advanced level of practice operating as an autonomous role model in order to provide expert patient care and develop own and other’s knowledge.
· Undertake assessments to inform safe, high quality risk management and care planning.
· Work in liaison with colleagues to drive improvements in patient care, taking appropriate opportunity to consult with patients and carers, formally and informally.
· Use professional judgement to support decisions on clinical and professional standards
· Adhere to and have working knowledge of relevant CYP legislative frameworks ensuring CHFT policies and guidance are compliant with this legislation.
· To participate in the trust’s senior nursing leadership rota which includes weekend working.
· Work out of hours as required to support service needs or in response to a specific concern that warrants senior leadership level oversight; this may include occasional night working.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Childrens Nurse
- Recognised mentorship/educator/assessor qualification
- Degree level or equivalent qualification/equivalent level of experience
- Leadership/management qualification/or equivalent level of experience
- Masters level qualification or have the relevant skills/experience/knowledge
- Evidence of post registration studies
Desirable criteria
- Patient Safety Incident Response Framework training (PSIRF)
